What a thrill it was to see this bird in Southern California. It's out of it's historical/normal range for a Cardinal, however, it's been reported that there is a Cardinal population here at Whittier Narrows Nature Center in South El Monte, California for quite some time. It's moved westwardly from it's normal range.

It was very exciting to see it and hear it sing. This was a "life" bird for my two birding companions and myself. "Life" bird means it's a bird someone has personally seen for the very first time.
